Every year TED and IBM partner for an exciting and stimulating event where thought leaders from many different backgrounds come together and speak on important issues effecting our world. The 2016 event kicked off in San Francisco, a hot spot for technology and creativity, featuring fourteen speakers and three performers. This year's theme was "Spark".
Role: Art direction
Design Solution: In addition to a sharp hand-written wordmark, we created a three-dimensional dynamic polyhedron which represented both the limitless opportunities after the "spark" of creativity as well as the personification of an actual spark. Working with a 3D designer we created several two-dimensional views of the polyhedron design and mapped on a textural image that represented each speaker's theme. The result was fourteen spark designs with beautiful images covering the surface from a brain scan to a digital fingerprint to a sound wave. We used these polyhedrons as the primary design element around the space.
